CTA in under 30 days: how CheatBooks turn past questions into marks

Past papers are the closest thing there is to the real exam, which is why they matter most in the final month. The trap is using them as reading: working through suggested answers you could never reproduce against the clock.

A CheatBook does the analysis for you. It takes the CIOT's recent papers, suggested answers and itemised marking guides and turns them into a method you can practise: 1. The risk map — Which topics the recent sittings actually paid marks for, ranked by marks rather than by how often they appear. You revise in order of what the paper rewards. 2. The answer structures — Reusable layouts taken from the marking guides, so you know what earns each mark and half mark before you start writing. 3. The clock — Every paper turned into a time budget per mark, with checkpoints to hold on the day. 4. One full mock, marked by a consultant — Sit it under exam conditions. A consultant returns your marked script within 5 working days of submission.

CheatBooks are built for the final four weeks. For Advanced Technical papers, use one alongside the paired Exam Focus course, which carries the current law and figures. £250 per paper, and every course page offers a free 24-hour pass, no card needed. Browse the CTA CheatBooks

Module of the Week: Taxation of Owner-Managed Businesses

CheatBook · £250 · built for the final four weeks before the sitting This is the paper where Income Tax, Corporation Tax, CGT, National Insurance and IHT meet in a single client's affairs. The CheatBook is built from the CIOT's suggested answers and marking guides for five consecutive sittings, May 2024 to May 2026, and the past papers and suggested answers behind it are in the course library. 1. Seven topics came up in all five sittings: adjustment of trading profits, company exits and close companies, capital allowances, employment taxes, the Corporation Tax computation, CGT business reliefs and the personal tax and NIC tail. Secure those first. 2. Exits, extraction and close companies rank second, at around 84 of the 500 marks. The topic has a reputation as a softer advisory area. The marking guides don't support that: it produced three complete questions in five sittings. 3. You get 2.1 minutes a mark. Six compulsory questions in 3 hours 30 minutes, and only one question in five sittings was worth less than 15 marks. There is no easy opener, so plan the clock before the content. Rankings are MojiTax's analysis of past papers, not guidance from the CIOT. Examiners can and do break pattern. View the module · Try it free for 24 hours
